Medical Spas are gaining popularity. Perhaps you have considered going or opening one. Though, most people have never been to one. Their services are incredibly popular, but how does it differ from a day spa?

What Is Medical Spa?

You can choose a medical spa to improve your appearance and overall health, whether you want a quick fix to look better or cosmetic enhancements. Medical spas pose unique risks when seeking laser treatments or other aesthetic procedures. Those risks can range from needles to drugs to machinery to property and employees. The good news is that medical spa insurance can help you protect yourself- having this insurance will give you peace of mind.

Medical spas offer non-invasive treatments, customized diets, and wellness programs combining medicine and aesthetic goals. Medical spa services include chemical peels, nonsurgical skin tightening, body sculpting, and tattoo removal. Increasingly, social media influencers are influencing consumer choices. The medical spa market will continue to grow, fueled by the popularity of these influencers.

What Are The Most Popular Med Spa Services?

Today, med spas are a multibillion-dollar industry that combines the relaxing atmosphere of a day spa with the specialized services of a medical doctor. However, these doctors are not required to perform medical procedures in the spa, but they must work with practice. The aesthetic goals of medical spas can differ. Some are designed with a soothing day spa aesthetic, while others are more clinical. Either way, you can expect experienced professionals and superior results.

Depending on the medical spa’s specialty, these facilities offer a variety of aesthetic procedures. Treatments can range from plastic surgery to acne treatments to non-surgical skin tightening and hair loss solutions. While the medical physician oversees these cosmetic procedures, other staff members, called estheticians, perform routine day spa therapies. These physician assistants also offer hair removal, medical weight loss, and tattoo removal treatments. If you’d like to book a medical spa appointment, do your research before scheduling your first treatment.

A medical spa treatment plan may include:

BOTULINUM TOXIN. Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin, injections of botulinum toxin, have become very popular for reducing wrinkles and rejuvenating the aging face.

COOLSCULPTING. It is a cellulite treatment that uses a controlled device to freeze and destroy fat. It is also known as the EmSculpt Neo.

DERMABRASION. It is a skin resurfacing process that is more invasive than microdermabrasion and is most often used to improve facial skin left scarred by accidents or previous surgery.

MICRODERMABRASION. It is a skin resurfacing procedure that helps exfoliate and treat light scarring, discoloration and sun damage, and stretch marks.

DERMAL FILLERS. Fillers are injectables that help rejuvenate the face by diminishing facial lines and adding volume.

DERMAPLANING. It exfoliates the skin’s surface layers through a scalpel, improving skin texture and reducing the appearance of acne scars.

HAIR LOSS REPLACEMENT. An intricately designed surgical procedure, hair transplants involve removing small pieces of hair-bearing scalp grafts and relocating them to bald or thinning regions.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL. It interferes with future hair growth by using highly concentrated light therapy to reach the hair follicles.

LIPOSUCTION. Removing fat deposits slims and shapes specific body parts and improves proportions.

MICROBLADING. It is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing treatment that fills in sparse eyebrows. This hand-held tool with needles applies pigments that simulate additional hair.

MICRONEEDLING. Tiny punctures created by a needle device trigger regeneration of collagen and elastin in the body. Some medical spas also offer micro-needling with radio frequency.

PERMANENT MAKEUP. Also known as micro-pigmentation, this includes outlining the eyes and coloring the lips and cheeks with a permanent organic pigment using a tattooing needle.

SCAR REVISION. This treatment plan aims to minimize wounds and acne scars to be more consistent with your surrounding skin tone and texture.

SCLEROTHERAPY. It can be alternatively called spider vein treatment. It involves injecting a solution into each affected vein.

SKIN REJUVENATION & SKIN RESURFACING. Also known as non-surgical facelifts, these treatments include laser, light therapy, energy-based, chemical peels, and other non-ablative methods.

SURGICAL BODY CONTOURING. Surgical body contouring after weight loss removes excess sagging skin while improving the shape of the underlying support tissue.

THREAD FACELIFT. It involves barbed threads, available with uni- and bi-directional cogs or barbs. It is a semi-invasive method of lifting the sagging skin of the face.

ULTRASOUND. A non-surgical skin tightening option for treating sagging skin around the eyebrows, chin, and jowls and improving wrinkles on the chest.

VAGINAL REJUVENATION – LASER. This laser-based treatment helps address changes in vaginal health often caused by childbirth, menopause, hysterectomy, or chemotherapy.

VAGINAL REJUVENATION – RADIO FREQUENCY. Radiation energy travels to target areas internally and externally, heating the tissue and stimulating collagen.

PRF FACELIFT. This treatment involves injecting a patient’s plasma by drawing a small amount of blood and isolating natural growth factors.

How Do Medical Spas Differ From Day Spas?

A medical spa has more services than a traditional day spa. Their medical professionals specialize in treating specific illnesses and injuries. Many of these services are not available at day spas, but they can improve your health and appearance. These are some of the major differences between medical and day spas. And how do you know which one is better for your needs?

A medical spa’s menu will vary, but it will typically focus on anti-aging, aesthetic goals, and cosmetic treatments. Popular treatments may include Botox, dermal fillers, and chemical peels. Some med spas also offer laser treatments and teeth whitening. And while they’re not as popular as day spas, med spas are still highly recommendable for those who want to achieve beautiful skin.

Besides facials and manicures, a medical spa can provide massages, mineral and paraffin baths, and more. While medical spas aren’t necessarily a doctor’s office, medical staff is present. They oversee advanced treatments, while non-physician treatment providers are under the care of an esthetician. The difference is subtle but important for your overall health.

Who Can Own A Medical Spa?

Suppose you’re not a physician but are interested in opening a medical spa. In that case, you might consider becoming a medical spa owner- though many states still require physicians to own and operate medical spas. If registered in a state, a medical professional corporation can also own a medical spa.

Although physicians own most medi spas, non-physicians can also own a med spa through a managed service organization or MSO. However, a physician must be the majority shareholder in a medical spa. Each state has its regulations, so you should consult with a licensed physician before deciding to open a med spa. A medical professional can open a med spa if certified in most cases.

Don’t worry if you don’t have any medical background – many non-physician entrepreneurs are starting med spas across the country. Creating an environment that is welcoming to patients and customers is essential for a medical spa. Without these business systems in place, it’s impossible to focus on selling services and treating patients.

An organization’s business systems are critical, as a lack of these can cause staff to take advantage of the facility. Otherwise, you risk losing clients and reputation. There are many ways to overcome the obstacles that may arise, and the right business systems can make or break your business.

Why Should You Consider A Medical Spa? What Are Its Benefits and Drawbacks?

Patients don’t typically enjoy going to the doctor, and they would rather have a more casual experience. In a traditional medical practice, the relationship between a patient and their doctor is purely professional and doesn’t feel personal. At a medical spa, workers can build long-lasting relationships with their clients, making them eager to return for their next treatment.

Clients are also more likely to have repeat business because they’re eager to share their positive experiences with friends and family. Medical spas have another advantage in that you’re in a calm environment. Hospitals can be scary places for patients, especially when they’re not in a serious medical condition. It’s hard to get comfortable when you feel rushed and unsure of what to expect. You can benefit from the calm atmosphere at a medical spa, where an expert will treat you. It will ensure that you have a faster and more comfortable recovery.

Despite its growing popularity, some medi-spas still have a poor reputation. Many aesthetic goals do not follow med spa ethics, and they have almost no repeat business. It is unfortunate, as it can hurt a med spa’s reputation. However, some med spas are ethical and uphold the standards of quality care. Among the major disadvantages of operating a medical spa is the high cost of staffing. A medical spa is a traditional business, and it requires an employee to answer the phone. Missed phone calls result in missed revenue opportunities. Instead, consider hiring a call center or dedicate an employee to handle customer service. Medical spas often operate outside the office, so consider the cost of travel and traffic when hiring employees to manage them.

How Often Should A Person Go To A Medical Spa?

A person can visit a medical spa for many reasons, including treatment for chronic pain and aging skin conditions. In some cases, a visit can effectively treat mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety. A medical spa can reduce your symptoms and help you live a healthier, more balanced life. Treatments vary from spa to spa, but many people find they have an increased quality of life after their visits.

Depending on your procedure, your session can last from an hour to several days. Your stay will largely depend on the treatment you choose and the location of the med spa. For example, expect a session that lasts about an hour or less if you get a facial. For other medical procedures, expect a shorter stay. But the results will be worth it. Many medical spa treatments can improve the skin’s condition and increase its appearance. Some people avoid the sun altogether, particularly their face and neck, because of the sensitive skin. But even if the skin isn’t damaged, you can still protect your face from UV rays with a high quality sunscreen. In any case, you should consider the benefits of a med spa sooner rather than later.

Conclusion

Taking care of your appearance requires the best results. Achieving your aesthetic goals will bring you new confidence and will have an incredible effect on how you feel in the world. Increasing numbers of people are now interested in improving their overall health. Medical spas offer various services, such as massages, facials, and laser hair removal, in a relaxing and comfortable setting. Therefore, if you wish to relax and rejuvenate, these establishments may be the right choice. Research and find a reputable medical spa to get the best results.
